Who needs a visa in advance?
Travellers on US passports are required to apply for a multiple-entry e-Visa in advance. UK, EU, Canadian, Australian, and most African passport holders can choose either route — we recommend the e-Visa for predictability.

Zanzibar entry
Zanzibar is part of Tanzania, but adds a separate health-insurance fee (currently $44 per traveller) collected at the airport on arrival. Bring a printed e-Visa, your yellow-fever certificate if you have transited a high-risk country, and a credit card.
